EUROPEAN SCREED TECHNOLOGY
Traditional in-slab installation of underfloor heating is not the most efficient method because it results in significant heat losses throughout the structural slab i.e. you are not only heating the entire slab but the periphery of the building also.
Underfloor systems work the best with screed floor construction where control and efficiency is optimised. This is how underfloor heating is installed in Europe and the rest of the world
Screed systems consist of a network of pipes that are embedded in a self leveling Anhydrite screed, which is installed over a layer of XPS foam to create a total thermal break. The thermal mass of a screed floor is significantly lower than concrete slab embedded methods and therefore the heating system responds much quicker and more efficiently.
WHEN TO SCREED
Screed systems can be retro-fitted to existing buildings where the floor is being removed or installed over the structural slab in new buildings.
Home owners are spending a lot of money to insulate structural slabs or using specially insulated form-work in an attempt to reduce heat losses. But nothing is as effective as a total thermally broken screed system
Screed systems can be installed using various thicknesses of screed and foam and offer a much more sustainable solution than traditional concrete.
